Our budget deficit in Washington has been created because of a spending problem, not an income problem. Federal tax cuts resulted in an explosion of federal revenue, but at the same time Congress hasn’t been able to control its spending. We must put our fiscal house in order.
There are three simple steps Congress must enact. First, Congress should pass a new federal Taxpayer Bill of Rights, limiting the growth of spending. Second, we need to eliminate the practice of Congressional ‘earmarks’. Third, the President must be given line-item veto authority to cut out wasteful Congressional spending.
