Health Care

Our healthcare system has lead to substantial longevity and improvement in health in our society and in the world, but our Medicare system is headed down a path it can’t sustain and ultimately will threaten the financial stability of our country. The cost of practicing medicine continues to escalate, partly because of an increase in malpractice awards which have risen at rapid rates. A government takeover of our health care system is not the answer. We should build a system that emphasizes preventive health care as well as continued progress in curative treatments. More competition in health care is part of the solution. Portability of insurance with greater transparency of costs for patients and providers is also important. As a physician, I know the value of putting the consumers back in charge of their health care.
